Joan Bas, Alexandre Bas team up with Izen Producciones to add Newco to the iZen GroupiZen Producciones, Spain’s leading independent production group, has joined with multi-award winning producers Joan and Alexandre Bas to form Newco Audiovisual. Based in Barcelona, Newco will be dedicated to the development and production of drama series for both national and international partners.
Joan is one of Spain’s most renowned drama producers whose most recent production, a period adaptation of Ildefonso Falcones’s best selling novel, La Catedral del Mar (Cathedral by the Sea) has just launched to record breaking ratings on Antena3, in partnership with Netflix.
His career began in 1994 when he created Poble Nou, the first Spanish daily series, Secrets de Família and Nissaga de Poder with Josep Maria Benet i Jornet.
Later he founded Diagonal TV with José Velasco, iZen Producciones’ president, in association with Zeppelin. Together they produced Spain’s first daily soap for Telecinco, El Super. Bas went on to produce multiple series for Diagonal including Calle Nueva (TVE), Ambiciones (Antena 3), La Señora (TVE), Amar en tiempos revueltos (TVE), 14 de abril. La República (TVE), Infidels (TV3), Bandolera (Antena 3), Amar es para siempre (Antena 3), Isabel (TVE), Sin Identidad (Antena 3), Carlos Rey Emperador (TVE) and La Catedral del Mar (A3-TV3-Netflix). Bas also has numerous film credits such as Va a ser que nadie es Perfecto, directed by Joaquín Oristrell, La Corona partida directed by Jordi Frades and The Bookshop, directed by Isabel Coixet, which recently won the Goya award for best film.
Alexander Bas has been the executive producer on multiple series for national and regional channels including Amar en tiempos revueltos (TVE), La señora (TVE), Isabel (TVE). He was previously a script editor for series such as El Súper (Telecinco), Calle Nueva (TVE) and Ambiciones (Antena 3) and has participated in international projects such as Hernán Cortés (TV Azteca).
